1st annual eggcellence awards!!!

ahhhh...this was fun!  nicole came over to my desk weeks ago and asked me if i wanted to help create some kind of egg decorating thing for our department for easter.  YES!!  yes, i do!!  so we came up with the 1st Annual Eggcellence Awards, with the people in our two departments on our floor invited (AP and CATS).  an egg decorating contest with 3 guest judges, 8 different categories to decorate eggs in, prizes, awards and lots of fun!
here's the categories:
  1. prettiest egg
  2. ugliest egg
  3. egg that looks like a dead american president
  4. egg that could be found in a disco
  5. egg decorated with peeps
  6. egg with best facial hair
  7. egg that looks like a kitteh
  8. egg actually decorated for easter
you could enter multiple entries, so i went with 1. egg decorated with peeps, 2. egg found in a disco and 3. egg that looks like a dead american president.  i put the most work into the damn peeps category.  i started a week ahead (right after we announced the contest and sent the email out to our departments) by buying a bunch of peeps and setting them out to dry:

then the day before the actual contest, we had a time set aside for the actual coloring of the eggs and then people could take their eggs home and decorate, decorate, decorate!  my eggs after i was done coloring them:
not too much to look at, but the pink and yellowish one were colored with the neat metallic coloring that nicole got...they could've used a couple more coats to make it super solid color, but we only had so much time at work for coloring.

do peeps dry out well?  you would think that they would, but NO!  damn things were hard on the outside and still soft and squishy on the inside.  really really hard to slice in half.  but nice for the hot glue, you could really mush them around:

i was surprised by how creative people got, we work with funny crafty people!!:

aaaaaaand the winners are:
ugliest egg....nicole!

egg decorated with peeps....emily!:

egg that looks like a kitteh...carmen!:

egg found in a dicso...christen!:

prettiest egg...christen!:

egg actually decorated for easter...joint effort by kelsey and kelly!:

egg with the most fantastic facial hair...nicole!:

egg that looks like a dead american president...solomon!:

nicole, dawn and i went to archie mcphee's and got prizes.  so every category had 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes complete with little ribbons and gifts!
i got 2nd place twice, so i felt pretty good about that!:

and here's my prizes...

i originally got a plastic bearded lady from the circus, but i overheard christen saying she didn't want one of her first place prizes and of course, it was the one thing i was secretly coveting, so she traded with me!!  this paperweight, pen holder is tackily awesome!
the 1st annual eggcellence awards were super fun and nicole and i are already thinking of things to do for next year.

i got shit done...

it was the ging's birthday last wednesday, so i started late and made her a stuffed rabbit this last weekend.

and LOOKIT them ears! sooooo cute!:

it's all finished!
this was my first attempt at making the rabbit and i got his little ears too far back on his head, so next time i'll put them up further.  he's still stupid cute though.

then on monday after work i went over to top pot, where she works, and gave her her prezzie.  ginger loooved her new rabbit!  i'm always so happy when i make someone something they REALLY love!
she works at the original top pot, which is downtown.  we have one 5 blocks from our house, but the one downtown is the neatest.

then on my way home i realized that i haven't had quiche since we moved from the last house, which is almost exactly one year ago!  so i made quiche for dinner tonight.  broccoli, onion, cheddar and parmesan.
it's about to go into the ovens:

it's really too bad that alistair eats so differently from me, because this quiche was GOOD!
aaaaand i'm gonna have it for lunchie-poo tomorrow!

and the last thing for today is i had a custom order for 3 camera straps and whipped those out tonight while i was in between dinner and whatnot:
they're for a girl in california, sarah, who is a photographer and has already bought quite a few straps from me.  she has a couple websites of her own:

and i'm really liking the lace i put on this one:
i had just enough of it to make her strap.  gold and white. mmmmmm.....

10 years together...

awwwww...it's finally morgan and joseph's 10 year anniversary weekend!  WOW! i guess i've known both of them for over 10 years since i met them from working at PCC when they both were dating other people, subsequently broke up with their respective boyfriends and have been together ever since.
i love both of them so much.  we have game night every once in a while and that is always super fun.  i don't see enough of them, so it was great to help celebrate their 10 years together this weekend with an anniversary party on saturday evening at the lake washington rowing club and then a cruise around elliott bay on argosy cruises on sunday.
unfortunately, my pics from the get together at the rowing club came out super dark, but a couple were ok:
my delicious vodka cran, alistair's mannys and my kowa six.  also the excellent centerpieces at every table were for us to take home as party gifts and put in our yards.  nice!  i grabbed one with flowers.

for some reason, the only pics i had of people that came out were of andrew.  apparently the camera loves him:
there's the ging!  i'll have a post about her tomorrow :)

i'm glad that andrew showed up, since he had a show at 3 and another one at 9:30.  he's a good friend.

then on sunday, the argosy cruise where there was SUNNY WEATHER!  amazing, really.
LOOK!  we cruised right on past where i work!  it's a really neat looking building from the water.

grace and i kept on trying to take pics of the two of us and they came out pretty shitty.  this was is great and totally typical...i managed to give myself multiple chins.  i'm glad i don't normally look like this...
grace, of course, looks adorable!  and there's juan next to grace.  i've heard about him for years, but i just met  him today.  he's been here 10 days, just moved from the east coast.

and here's morgan and joseph!
my only picture of them and it's the side of morgan and the back of joseph's head.  i suck.

this plane came right over us, i'm pretty sure i saw the pilot waving :)

we went right by south seattle where they load all the shipping containers on the boats and it was really neat.  the big crane contraptions that they use to load those ginormous boxes on the boats are crazy:

i really liked this one:  big enormous boat, with a smaller tug boat next to it, with a smaller boat next to it and finally a teeny-tiny little boat next to it.  hee hee.

poops!

then the cruise was over and grace and i went to uwajimaya on the way home for a late lunch and some grocery shopping for poops:

it was a great day and so super nice of morgan and joseph to take everyone on the cruise!
YAY for sunny days in seattle!

it's a heart attack waiting to happen...

i think it was monday that nicole and i were talking about this sandwich she recently had while in europe.  she didn't remember much about it except it had sliced hard boiled egg and bacon on it.  while we were talking about it, i just kept adding to how i think the sandwich should be and couldn't get the stupid thing out of my head, so i came home and made it tonight.
i fried up bacon, boiled and sliced an egg, sliced tomato, sliced avocado, toasted tasty bread and made vena's super quick and easy garlic aioli (i had to call her and find out how to make it...i thought it was going to be much harder).

in my head, it's going to be good. or it could be farking terrible.  either way, it's a heart attack waiting to happen!

shit.  it was delicious.  i will be having this heart attack in the future.   i don't know why i thought it might be kind of gross.  everything i love is on it.  therefore, it should all be together in a sandwich.  mmmmm....bacon.
i fucking love bacon.

on another note, but also related to work and food, i was eyeballing xine's salad in the break room the other day when she was making it.  she had these delightful little seeds on it that totally looked like mini dinosaur eggs (or what i think dinosaur eggs should look like) and she told me they were chia seeds.  oh, yes...that's correct...CHIA SEEDS!  i guess i've never had a chia pet, so i didn't know what the seeds looked like.  and who knew they were so good for you.  so she showed up today with the cutest little tub of chia seeds for me to try:
it has a seal sticker on it!!!

they are tiny and adorable.  i'm looking forward to sprinkling them on the next salad i have.
thanks xine!!

i was going to have a salad for dinner tonight, but the heart attack wouldn't get out of my mind.  if i die in my sleep, you know i died full and happy :)
