cheese sticker coffee table...

a couple of weeks ago i went back to idaho for my step-sisters graduation from college.  i took some pics, but not too many.  i'll probably stick them up on their own post tomorrow.  anyway...my mom had found this cute, kind of crappy looking little coffee table.  and since i really like to cover wooden furniture with cheese stickers it came home with me be covered.

here it is before i did anything to it:

usually, i just use cheese stickers to cover the whole thing, but my mom sent home a bunch of bird and flower magazines with me so i got the bright idea to decoupage birds and butterflies on there also.  here's the ones i decided on.
i figure one for wrapping around the base of each leg and 2 for the top of the coffee table.  i want to do this double fan design i thought of and that will give the corners an even better focus point.  and i thought that the birds would also kind of blend in with the cheese stickers my mom wanted, kind of like how birds blend in with trees and bushes at the same time they stand out in them.

i even managed not to slice my twinkies up using an x-acto knife:

i did the legs first just to get them out of the way.  here they are, drying from the ceiling after i put the first coat of modge podge on them:
i really like how they came out.  the birds and butterflies wrap around the bottoms, so you have to go all around them to see the whole thing.

then here are the stickers my mom wanted for the top of the table:
she really only told me about the oval ones.  i chose the green to make a nice checkerboard pattern for the bottom.  i have the oval ones on my kitchen table that i covered years ago.  you can kind of see the pattern in earlier posts with ravioli :)
but then i also chose a different sticker for the diagonal line down the middle and the edging around the coffee table.

here's my drawing of my guide lines for sticking the stickers on:
looks like a spiderweb.  apart from these lines, everything else is just stuck on by eyeballing it.

then almost halfway done putting the top stickers on:

now here is the bottom:
i like to do checkerboards on the bottom of tables and chairs.  it's easy and always looks nice.  even though you don't look at the bottom of tables and chairs, i can't leave them undone.  i'll know that it's totally finished.

and the final product!!!:

now i just have to put a million coats of clear finish on it.  that should take a couple of weeks.  i always coat it first with the modge podge and then with a clear lacquer of some kind.  this time i'm using a water based polyfinish.  the only problem is that it isn't very thick, so you gotta put like 30 coats on.  no shit.  takes forever.
but i really like how the birds came out with the stickers.  i hope my mom likes it...i think she will!!

straps!!!

i've been such a slacker with my etsy site since i got the job at emeritus.  i used to do all my sewing in the morning and then go to work at 1 until 9:30 and that was great!  now i get to work at 7, work until 3:30 and DO NOT feel like sewing when i get home.  so anything i do gets done on the weekends.  and that's usually doing things for other  people.  or just being lazy on the couch!  but i've recently gotten off my ass and made more camera straps because they just keep selling.  and they're fun to make.

here's some of the latest ones:

i looooove this one:

this one sold and i sent it to singapore:

this one sold and i sent it to ohio.  that's next to singapore, right?:

and this one.....mmmm.....love the geometric pattern and the colors!:

now i have 5 bags to make.  4 are christmas prezzies (way to think ahead, noelle!) and one is for erin.  comin' your way soon, ladies!!!

baseball!!!

i am not a fan of sports.  i could really care less.  the most i've ever actively participated in a sport is frisbee golf when i was as the university of idaho.  no, i'm not taking about ultimate frisbee where you run your ass off over a whole football field playing keep away with a frisbee.  you know, the nice leisurely walk through campus, throwing a frisbee for 18 holes at objects on campus.  i looooooooved the unofficial frisbee golf course at the u of i.  i still play every time i go back to idaho even though there's been a shit load of construction through campus and the back 9 holes are totally effed up.  i'll be going to idaho next weekend for my step-sisters graduation and will be coming back with a sore shoulder from throwing a frisbee at least once a day. and now i look to see if there's anything on the web about the u of i course and what do i find???  SORROW!!!  and i'd just like to say for the record that the $13,000 worth of damage to the spanish american war statue could not EVEN be caused by frisbees.  that statues hands were not hacked off by frisbees!!  that's a metal statue!  really?  maybe you should look across the street at all the frats.  just sayin...
ANYWAY!  i'm not into sports and don't really care about watching sports on tv. but my job gives out free mariners tickets all season!  so you can enter the drawing and hopefully win tickets!  my friend amber's boss won GREAT tickets and gave them to amber so we went!  i had won once last season and vena and i went, but our seats weren't nearly as nice as the ones last night!
23 rows back from the mariners dugout.  farking awesome seats!!

amber, vena and i went.  i had also won tickets, but the seats weren't nearly as good as the ones from amber, so we all just sat in hers.

i took my holga and took some black and white shots so maybe this weekend i'll get around to developing that.  and maybe the 10 or so rolls i also have to develop.  so. lazy.
but, ichiro was in attendance and here's the shot i got of him:

and then there was this guy!  hot dog vendor with a HOT DOG HAT!  it was great!  i could totally see sally wearing this hat:

amber lasted about half an hour before being totally over it and went home.  vena and i lasted about another hour until it was too fucking cold to stay there.  should've brought a light blanket.  our seats were so great i was disappointed to not stay the whole game, but really...this spring in seattle has been COLD!
so we left and took the light rail home:

going to baseball games is fun!  watching on tv is almost unbearable, but being in the stadium is pretty awesome.  i guess they won in the last minute or some shit and i wish i had been there to see that, but hopefully i'll win other tickets this summer and can go again!!
