seti...

i wasn't too sure which thing i wanted to share on my blog first today and i'm not sure which is nerdier, so since i've already talked about jake ryan this week, i'll go with the other.

so i just finished watching the first season of "flash forward" which is based on a novel by robert j. sawyer.  i like reading books that have tv shows and movies based on them because they are always better.  so i looked up the author at the library and checked out a couple of his other books and am reading one called "rollback" and in it they talk a lot about SETI, the institute in berkley.  so i decided to check out the SETI website because i just love shit like this.  http://www.seti.org/  i'm pretty sure i was born in the wrong century with my love of science fiction and space travel.  then i notice on the website something called seti@home which is also referenced in the book, but i didn't think it was real. but lo and behold...it is! http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/
i downloaded the program on my computer and now i'm helping out and i find this really exciting.  my screensaver really does look like this:
it's all rotating around and shit and numbers are flashing around and the graph is updating and it's just NEAT.
i am such a dork.  i have to read everything on the website so i really understand what's going on, but that's going to be fun also.

in other news...amber decided she didn't want her "sixteen candles" poster from the other night, so she cut out jake ryan and brought him in for my to hang out in my cubbie with me.  this is a great present.  the pictures came out so funny because it totally looks like i photoshopped his ass in there.  i really just glued him onto cardboard and propped him up on my desk.  i even patted his little head when i left for the day and told him goodnight.

see you tomorrow jake.
