busy day...

saturday was a busy day.  i ate a lot of food and finished abby and paul's new baby bag.  this is the 3rd baby bag i've made for them.  i'm glad they like them so much.  this one came out really cute:

and as usual, lots of interior pockets.  i'm glad i had enough of this fabric left over from maya's christmas present.  i made her a duvet cover for her new comforter from two sheets.  it came out really well and the leftover fabric made great interior fabric for this bag!

then there was the ridiculous amount of food i ate all day.  first i made myself a dutch baby pancake for breakfast.  i'll make a whole post on those sometime.  then i made egg salad sannies for me and maya for lunchie-poo.  then for dinner i made sweet and sour tofu.  this was my 2nd time making it and it came out waaaay better than the first time.
first i cooked up the tofu (i really love deep fried food mmmmmm......):

then i chopped up all the veggies while the tofu was cookin': baby corn, pineapple, red and green pepper, onion and tomato:
(i love that bowl!)

then i made the sauce:

and the finished product!

and there are leftovers.  i'm pretty excited to eat them later.  maybe it'll be dinner for me and amber when she comes over to watch the oscars!

guess who's coming to dinner...?

this last week was maya's mid-winter break.  when the hell did mid-winter breaks start anyways and how come i didn't have them when i was in school?  christmas vacation and then mid-winter break at the end of february.  must be nice.  except for the fact of being in school waaaaay into june.  we were always done with school about mid-may.  sweet.  anyway, she was off school so her grandmother, lucy, came up from san diego to visit.  lucy is diana's mother and has never been over to our house because diana blah blah blah ad nauseum.  so alistair invited her over to dinner to see the other half of maya's life.  not wanting to eat brown rice and tofu, i decided to make dinner.  handmade spinach and cheese ravioli with a brown butter pecan sauce.  roasted asparagus.  green salad.  should be fine.
i've made homeade ravioli before because we have a pasta maker and also a ravioli press thingy.  so before i got too far into it, i remembered la camera.  i don't think too many people make pasta from scratch anymore.  but there is no comparison between fresh pasta and dried from the store.  it's quite easy to make, just time consuming.

first, i made the dough, let it sit for a couple of hours, mixed up the filling (spinach, egg, parmesan, ricotta, nutmeg, salt and pepper) and then started sending the dough through the pasta maker:

then i started making the ravioli.  first laying one sheet down on the bottom of the ravioli press thingy, then adding the filling and then another sheet on top and then pressing and cutting at the same time with a rolling pin:

and voila!  ravioli!

i ended up with a nice plate full, enough to feed all four of us.  i tossed them in flour to keep them from sticking to each other since i wasn't going to cook them until the next evening.

after making a bunch of pretty perfect ravioli, i did a really dumb thing.  wrapped it in PLASTIC and put it in the fridge.  plastic.  not a good idea.  kept all that moisture in.  which made it all stick to fucking gether.  which i did not realize until the next night right before i went to toss it in the boiling water.  i tried to unstick them.  pointless.  just a big gummy mess.  so i just tossed it all in the boiling water and hoped for the best and that they all would somewhat unstick from each other and cook well.

not bad:

they kind of came out more like little dumplings, but they still tasted damn good.
dinner was good, i stopped being nervous about diana's mother being in our house (so weird!) and enjoyed the evening.  lucy's a very nice woman and i really hope she comes back over the next time she's in town.  we had a good visit :)
now next week when my mom and debbie are in town and i make ravioli again (different filling this time!) i WILL NOT stick them in plastic.  duh.

well, shit.

huh...well, i was going to stick up a new blog about going to see the rat city rollergirls for the first time, but who knew that they would sell out at key arena?  apparently, NO ONE!  so many people were turned away because it was sold out.  that's so silly.  key arena is huge!  denise and christine think they didn't open up the upper seating which is even stupider because they could have made a lot of money off of alllllllllll those people who got turned away.
oh, well, next month, RIGHT?  i think we'll get tix in advance.

seti...

i wasn't too sure which thing i wanted to share on my blog first today and i'm not sure which is nerdier, so since i've already talked about jake ryan this week, i'll go with the other.

so i just finished watching the first season of "flash forward" which is based on a novel by robert j. sawyer.  i like reading books that have tv shows and movies based on them because they are always better.  so i looked up the author at the library and checked out a couple of his other books and am reading one called "rollback" and in it they talk a lot about SETI, the institute in berkley.  so i decided to check out the SETI website because i just love shit like this.  http://www.seti.org/  i'm pretty sure i was born in the wrong century with my love of science fiction and space travel.  then i notice on the website something called seti@home which is also referenced in the book, but i didn't think it was real. but lo and behold...it is! http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/
i downloaded the program on my computer and now i'm helping out and i find this really exciting.  my screensaver really does look like this:
it's all rotating around and shit and numbers are flashing around and the graph is updating and it's just NEAT.
i am such a dork.  i have to read everything on the website so i really understand what's going on, but that's going to be fun also.

in other news...amber decided she didn't want her "sixteen candles" poster from the other night, so she cut out jake ryan and brought him in for my to hang out in my cubbie with me.  this is a great present.  the pictures came out so funny because it totally looks like i photoshopped his ass in there.  i really just glued him onto cardboard and propped him up on my desk.  i even patted his little head when i left for the day and told him goodnight.

see you tomorrow jake.

happy valentine's day!!

today was a fun day at work!  most everyone put up their valentine's boxes and everyone got valentines.  there were some outstanding boxes:
ivy's is super cute...

dave's killed me...that one took HOURS!

i think garfield is getting a little too into the holiday...

and the sign on james' was the best.  poor wes.

and then opening my box and getting all the goodies was fun!
my box was ridicuously big, so it looks like i don't have much stuff - but there was A LOT!

ivy's little package was awesome!  i'm pretty excited about the hello kitty pencil!

and i looooooved dawns:
it now has a permanent space on my shelf.  go team jacob!!

i love you molly...

just got home from watching sixteen candles on the big screen.  THAT WAS AWESOME!  i never went and saw it in the theatres when it was originally released, so i've been looking forward to this for a couple of weeks now.  i'm pretty sure i put the date on every calendar i have so i wouldn't get the date wrong.  i really didn't want to accidentally miss it.
oof...jake ryan looked fucking awesome.  i had no idea that actor had freckles.  makes him just that much hotter.
i was pretty surprised that more people didn't go to see it.  the theatre wasn't even half full.  but it was fun!  people cheered and clapped as soon as it started and everyone laughed and giggled the whole way through.  amber and i had a great time.
i'll have to look for a little frame to stick my movie stub in.  i know...i'm such a dork.  but i have 2 favorite movies...and this is one of them!  i'll never see it in the theatres again.  AND!  everyone got a complimentary poster on our way out.  gotta figure out where to put that.
*sigh* off to bed for jake ryan dreams.  and then waking up to valentine's day!
YAY!

buh bye pcc...

ooohhh..haha!  i was going through some pictures on my computer today and found the pictures from my last day of work at pcc.  i miss the spice rack.  i put a lot of work into that fucker.
i had a dream right after quitting pcc that i went in to visit sally in the kitchen and some asshole had taken all my images off the spices.  i was PISSED.  and then i started crying.  one of those times where you're crying so hard and so upset in your dream that you start crying in your sleep and wake yourself up.  with tears and snot all over.
not to say that i'm the ONLY person who contributed to the spices...but a lot of it was me.  i think my favorite is willie nelson on the orgegano.  shit...there's hot spock.  and the photocopy of me and my date from a high school dance.  tony soprano on the italian herbs is pretty good too.  i was so entertained putting shit on spices.
every time i see this pictures i just want to say..."he's so gay." BWA HAHAHAHAHA!
no, really, brian...it's a nice picture of you :)

jay made me a bitchin' cake.  dang.  it was gooooood.  and so pretty!

sally made me a  nice sign for above my work station...LOOK!  i think it's wessie in the background!!  hi wessie!

and my last batch EVER of goddamn emerald city salad.
FU EMERALD SHITTY!!

i know i've been gone from there since last june, but i still don't miss it.  sure do miss the people (most of them) and working with music OUT LOUD and better hours.  but other than that.  nope.  don't miss it.

wow.

sethie posted this on facebook.  the colors are amazing.  it reminds me of those candles that get dipped in layers of different colors and then are carved and formed kind of like flower candles.  but obviously, this is on a totally different scale.

i have one of these candles...it's not as amazing as the one in the video...but i heart it!

cinny bunns...and buns...

today was a much better day at work.  yesterday was so horrible, i forgot that when i got home and checked my facebooks and saw that baylor was making cinnamon buns and delivering them that i had put in an order!  good thing  i checked my fb when i got to work so i could scurry up to the gas station to get some cold hard cash for cinny bunns!  i was very excited to see my name on that brown box...

they were delicious.  i even shared.

today was just full of bunns.  later, i took the fake butt and turned it into julie's valentine's box.  or bum.  or buns.  whatever you prefer.

i'd like to congratulate whoever stuck that heart sticker on there.  fantastic.

new phone!

well, i've finally joined this century and got a smart phone.  SMRT!!  i find it very exciting.  the phone has quite a few little templates to use to make fun pictures.  i had to try different ones out.  i can think of many uses for these!  there will be more in the future, but for now...

oh, i love that's he's dreaming about q, while looking at bike crap on the computer!

hahahahaha!

and this was pretty much how the day at work went.  it's gonna be a loooong week :)

i know, amber, eric stoltz IS stupid hot!

it's my first!...

i did it.  i gave in.  i'm tired of sending photos to facebook.  it's time.  i'm joining all you effing bloggers.  i will not be posting every day.  i'm not that into it.

BUT!  i am into valentine's day this year.  mostly because of working in AP where people get into holidays.  i'm super excited to make my valentine's day box to stick outside my cubbie for the big day!  i've almost got my valentine's done too.  ahead of the game for once.
hrrrrmmmm....it's furrzy.  next week...new phone, better pics :)
